We have developed a prototype AI system (next page) that uses heart rate variability (HRV) analysis technology and machine learning to automatically detect not only the presence of AF but also frequent premature contractions, which are a risk factor for AF, based solely on just 30 R-R interval (RRI) data points (approximately 30 seconds) acquired by a wearable sensor.
This AI system can determine whether the data indicates AF, premature contractions, or a normal rhythm, with results immediately viewable on a smartphone app. While smartwatches previously could only detect the presence or absence of AF, by evaluating premature contractions—which may indicate hidden AF—this system enables accurate AF detection with minimal wear time.
